The advantages
of tables over desks
There are many reasons why tables can
be preferable to office desks in your workspace environment. But a
lot of people never even consider using a table in the office. Often that’s because
of a false assumption – that a desk with drawers provides more
organization.
Using a table workstation can be just as effective
if the goal is organization
Have you ever really thought about
using a table as a place to work? If you’re like most people, the
answer is no. We work at desks because… well, just because.
But a table does
offer certain advantages, IF you happen to be a fairly well organized
person. That’s the key. Desks tend to be helpful if you need
a place to put things so they’re out of the way. But isn’t it more
productive to have the items you use right there in front of you?
One of the best
things about using a table in your home office is the increased surface area. Many
desks are comparatively small and even have second levels for
things like computer monitors, further reducing available space.
Another
not-so-obvious advantage of a table is that it's relatively easy to
move around. Ever try moving a wood or metal desk? Not fun.
Finally, tables
tend to cost less than computer desks. Sometimes a LOT less.
In fact, in many cases you can buy two of them for the price of a
single desk. This can be critical, especially for
a start-up business or any business on a tight budget.
