Get
Responsible and Recycle Your Trash Now!
It doesn’t take very much to institute your
own recycling program. Contribute to environmental responsibility
by recycling your trash. Even if, as some say, global
warming does not exist there is a finite amount of resources on
the planet and conserving resources for reuse is a worthwhile endeavor.
Did you know that there are three to five pounds of lead in one
of those old computer monitors? What happens if that monitor is
thrown in the landfill? If the plastic around it ever breaks down,
the lead will oxidize and easily erode and leach into the soil and
into the ground water.
What happens if your or your kids ever decide to purchase a house
that uses lead contaminated ground water as its water supply? Well
we know that lead is one of the most toxic substances for the human
body. It has a huge detrimental effect on the mental and physical
development of young children especially. So your actions today
can influence the well being of others tomorrow. Recycle computer
monitors and keep them out of landfills.
The same goes for all your other computer trash. All the circuit
boards use solder to connect the circuits together. Solder is about
30% lead content. So those circuit boards need to be kept out of
landfills and sent to a recycler for proper recycling.
By recycling we keeping lead out of the ground water and also conserve
plastics for future use. As an example, did you know that the average
toner cartridge consumes about 3 quarts of oil for the plastic alone?
Think about all the office equipment in the world and how much resources
could be saved if everyone recycled their “stuff”.
The good news is that the large corporations that we buy from recognize
this problem too, and have instituted recycling programs on computer equipment.
If they think this is a good idea, even though
it costs them money, so should you.
To recycle your old computer equipment, first find out if the Original
Equipment Manufacturer will take it back. If not, check with your
city or county and they should know where to recycle computer equipment
. If there is nobody in your location that recycles, it
may be an opportunity for another business!
