Office and Desk Gifts – What to (and not to) Give
Office and desk gifts are great gestures from one business or
co-worker to another. It’s also convenient to give a desk gift to
someone who has everything else. If you don’t know someone very well
and have no idea what they want for a birthday or Christmas gift,
going with some kind of office gift is a great answer. Even kids can
use office supplies for schoolwork or computer desks.
While there are tons of desk picture frames often pushed as office
gifts, it’s not always a practical gift for most businesspeople.
They often have a picture frame of their loved ones on their desk or
a nearby surface, and too many framed pictures cause clutter and
just get in the way.
Instead, look for a practical office or desk gift. Fun and
inexpensive gadgets come in handy and are a novelty. A standing case
to hold an extra pair of glasses is a good desk gift for someone who
wears prescription or reading glasses. It’s inexpensive, doesn’t
take up much room, and comes in handy. A monitor shelf with cubby
holes for office supplies and files is also likely to be a welcome
office gift.
Traditional company-to-company office gifts include food baskets,
personalized or monogrammed desk supplies, or even a card with
coupons for future discounts on your products or services.
Giving gifts to your co-workers should be personal instead of
typical office gifts, if at all possible. Instead of a desk
accessory, give them a gift certificate to the movies or a spa kit.
If, on the other hand, it’s a co-worker who’s always stealing your
pens and paperclips, their own supplies might be welcome office and
desk gifts for both of you!
