Office Furniture Chairs - Pick One for the Long Run
Choosing office furniture chairs by how well they match your desk or
other furniture is a mistake, but it's a common one. Time was, a
chair was a chair was a chair. Not so these days! Now it's all about
ergonomics and lower back support. Chairs with adjustable heights
and tilting seats are virtually mandatory for anyone who sits in
them most of the day while doing office work.
This is true for those of us who work in home offices, too. Our
furniture has to be functional and comfortable, especially our desks
and chairs. I've had a lousy (read, cheap) chair before, back when
it was all I could afford. I know wherefrom I speak on this issue!
If you want to be unproductive and dread working in your office, use
a crappy chair every day.
In all seriousness, office chairs are the one piece of furniture
your body is in contact with the most. It makes no sense to skimp on
it when it so directly affects your comfort, which in turn impacts
your ability to work productively. What I think happens is that most
of us just get used to sitting in a lousy chair. We fail to
recognize how it saps our energy and gives us those nagging neck and
back aches.
Do yourself (and your business) a big favor and invest in a quality,
modern, ergonomic office chair! I highly recommend the
Aeron Chair,
which is state-of-the art office furniture and comfortable beyond
belief. Sit in one for 10 seconds and you'll smack yourself for
hanging onto that 1975-era embarrassment you call a 'chair.'
