Antique Desks - A Touch of Class in Your Home Office
Have you given any thought to antique desks in an office setting at
home? Chances are, your home office will have to double for other
uses at some point. While you want the room to be primarily
utilitarian, why not consider an antique desk to beautify it when
you do have to use it for some other purpose.
There are such things as antique office desks, you know. They tend
to be made of hiqh quality hardwood, such as oak or cherry. And they
typically have beautiful, ornate carvings and elaborate legs. The
different between these antiques and the typical modern home office
desk can be stark. The latter are often, well, ugly. But an antique
is often eye-catching.
Of course, you want your desk to be usable, regardless of its age
and relative beauty. So, if you look for an antique, take the time
to sit at it and get a feel for how likely it is that you will be
comfortable working at such a desk for long hours.
Try finding older desks at garage sales, estate sales, and even
specialty antique stores. I once saw a marvelous older desk in a
dusty storage corner at one of my father's client's antiques outlet.
Just a stunning piece of office furniture! Since I was about 12
years old, I didn't have a lot of use for it (or the money to buy it
even if I had!), but I still remember it. That should tell you how
much of an impact the sight of antique furniture, including
something as mundane as a desk, can be.
