Adjustable Shelving for Your Home Office

If your home office is short on storage space, adjustable shelving might be the answer.  Most home offices are converted spare bedrooms or studies.  That means the chances are high that a closet or two will be conveniently accessible.  Shelving is a great way to utilize otherwise wasted space in closets.  Using adjustable shelves adds that much more flexibility.

Some uses for shelving you can adjust include storing office supplies for easy access, keeping manuals and bound documents organized, and keeping important materials out of the reach of children who may spend time in your office at home.  You can see how an adjustable shelf makes these things that much easier to manage.

If you need a more traditional shelving solution, like a bookcase, you can get a model that has adjustable shelves.  This is recommended, in fact, for most home offices.  People who work from home often change the office layout to test better methods of organization.  Using shelving that is adjustable gives you more options.

A novel use for adjustable shelves is to get a couple that are wider than normal (say, 24 inches) to use as makeshift printer or telephone stands.  The idea is to maximize the available space you have in your home office, wasting as little as possible.  Try setting up the shelving within arms reach of your desk.  You can adjust the height to best suit your position. This will not only make your printer, telephone, or fax machine accessible, but it will free up extra space on your desk’s surface.
