Do you actually use your desk
calendar?
Is the ubiquitous desk calendar a relic
of the past, destined to go the way of secretaries who take
shorthand? Very likely, I say. I predict we’ll see more and more
computer desks going naked, without the huge rectangular calendar
that used to adorn virtually every desk in its heyday.
The reason this will happen is right
before your eyes at this very moment. That’s right – your computer.
Desk calendars used to be downright necessities, especially for busy
office executives and administrative personnel. But the organizational
job that a calendar did so well has been usurped by handy computer
software.
Save a tree – ditch the desk calendar!
As computers become more and more
common (and necessary) in offices everywhere, it just makes sense that
people would prefer the scheduling and reminder programs on the
computer to a bulky, coffee-stained paper desk calendar. It’s a matter of
convenience for many.
Let’s face it, if you’re like 95% of
your fellow office workers, your computer desk is a mass of papers,
pens, paperclips, and quirky little stuffed animals. Do you really
even glimpse at that dusty, lonely calendar these days? If not, why
have it? Convention? Because you’ve always had one there? Break the
chains!
OK, so it’s not that big a deal. But
seriously, more people are letting their computers do the jobs they’re
best at, like organizing schedules. The next time you’re at a loss as
to what gift to give someone you know who works in an office, skip the
cute calendar and get them the latest computer game.
